about

Gardening By Moonlight was a duo formed in the early 1980’s by John (JJ) Johnson & Duncan Bridgeman, having previously played with the likes of Wayne County & The Electric Chairs, Flying Lizards and John Foxx. An attempt to experiment with song, rhythm, synths and production in an open and free way, GBM issued 3 singles and an album Method In The Madness in their duo incarnation. Johnson (who provides drums, percussion and vocals to this recording) recalls: “we invited Adrian down to Music Works Studio during the recording of our debut single to provide a dub mix. On arrival he promptly set about radically re-wiring the mixing desk and the effects units and experimenting with his techniques. As the VU meters moved into the red on overdrive and we were immersed in waves of controlled distortion, Duncan and I feared that the desk and effects would explode! However, by the end of the mix, our concern turned to delight and amusement as the desk didn’t explode, the mix was fine, and all was well!” Bridgeman went on to record two acclaimed albums as 1 Giant Leap, with Jamie Catto of Faithless; whilst Johnson continues to record and produce music and film under the GBM moniker.
